It is with a heavy heart that I inform you that Scott Coley passed away this morning. At this time there aren't many details, but I will post them when I receive them.

Scott is the immediate Past President of the Wisconsin Water Ski Federation. He held the position of President for 7 years. During his tenure, he accomplished many great things. One of his greatest accomplishments is what he did for the Collegiate programs in the area. There aren't very many Collegiate teams in Wisconsin and beyond who Scott didn't have a strong impact on. In fact, there aren't very many water skiers in the State of Wisconsin that Scott didn't have a strong impact on as well.

Scott was a great visionary for the sport of water skiing and will be truely missed. Please keep Scott and his family in your prayers.

On December 19, 2008 Wisconsin water skiers were suddenly forced to say farewell to Scott Coley, a dear friend and past president of the Wisconsin Water Ski Federation. Scott was a home builder by trade, and a builder of the WWSF by heart. His passion for waterskiing was second only to his passion for his family; wife Karen and his two sons Nick and Sam.

Scott was an “idea man” who would spend hours thinking of new ways to solve problems and market waterskiing in Wisconsin. One of Scott’s latest accomplishments was to get water skiing featured on a regional tourism television program called “Discover Wisconsin” which aired through the Midwest. The half hour program featured every aspect of waterskiing and many of the beautiful ski sites Wisconsinites have known about for years. Scott also promoted the benefits of local ski teams to the state legislature, going so far as to have Wisconsin declared the “Show Ski Capitol” of the world by the Governor. Scott added a new dimension to the Wisconsin Water Ski Federation’s Hall of Fame, with a Memory Star. Loved ones could purchase a star in memory of a lost loved one, forever memorializing them in the Hall of Fame. During the winter months, Scott would spend hours drumming up new sponsors and vendors for Think Tank, talking to anyone who would listen about water skiing in Wisconsin.

When he wasn’t pondering the marketing aspect, Scott was trying to find new members for waterskiing and the WWSF. Without Scott, Wisconsinites would not have a strong collegiate water ski program. During the past few years, Scott’s focus turned to partnering Show Teams with Collegiate teams for the purpose of sharing boat sponsorships, a win-win for all involved, as those who partnered made many more great water ski friends. Due to Scott’s dedication to grass roots water skiing, the National Ski League (NSL) and the National Wakeboard League (NWL) flourish in Wisconsin. Even the scholastic skiers who compete in fun tournaments have Scott to thank for their current program. If you owned a pair of water skis, Scott wanted you to join the WWSF. He never took “no” for an answer.

It is with a sense of disbelief that this is written. We were so fortunate to have Scott among us, to have his guidance, leadership and friendship. Wisconsin water skiers walk down a united path thanks to Scott. For now the walk will be lonely, but in his honor we will continue all the many programs he has started. In his honor we are able to ski for one more day.

May God bless Scott and give him a peaceful home. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, his first passion.

What a unique individual. When our ski club (Ski Cats) was in trouble he was the first to get involved and make the trip up here to survey the situation and see the problems first hand. In our time of crisis he was with us.
He was able to unify all aspects of our sport, getting 3 event and show skiers to all pull together. A true friend who will be sorely missed. He gave so much to the sport I don't know how he had time for a normal job.
The alliances he formed in politics were so important in getting water skiing recognized for its true value both as a recreation and a financial force both in this state and on the national level. Our sympathy to his family for we all, indeed, share their loss. Just can't replace a guy like that.
